6 Tips for Getting Stuff Done

The goal is to not feel too overwhelmed by everything around you, but I know that that can sometimes be not so easy. Getting things done can seem nearly impossible when you have a huge list of things that you need to do, and not enough time to do it in. But I promise, you got this girl!

I know your struggle because, guess what, I moved! And no, not another blog move, but an actually house move. My boyfriend and I have been living in a teeny tiny apartment for the past year to save money--and now, we are finally moved into a wonderful loft apartment on the outskirts of town. I absolutely love the look and feel of the place. And I can't believe how much room I have in here!!!!

There are so many projects that  I need to get done to make the house feel more like home. And I'm starting to feel swamped. Since this month is focused on time management and planning, I figured why not turn to all of you! The blogging community has some amazing people with tons of tips and good ideas for getting things done and winding down.

Evaluate your priorities.

This is something I really strive to do every time I have a long list of things that need to get done. Sometimes all I need is an extra 5 minutes to number my priorities. After that simple task is done, it makes the larger job so much easier. Your list becomes  less daunting and more manageable.

Set a timer.

Do you do this? When you have something you need to get done (for example, organize your emails) try setting a timer of 10 minutes. This timer is the time that you will be working on this project whether you get it done or not. I really like this tip because it helps keep me focused and reminds me that everything doesn't need to be done all at once. Plus, when that timer goes off, I know I'm either going to switch projects or take a break!

Write down your goals.

Just setting goals isn't enough. If I don't write something down to make it official then it won't get done. I want my goals to be concrete and public so I feel accountable for what I have to do. That's why I share my goals for the month on my blog! You guys are keeping an eye on me, and thus I feel as though I have to follow through.

Wake up early.

I think I saw the cringe of you all from here. I know that for a lot of people, waking up early just isn't your thing. But think of it this way--the earlier you get up, the more you get done! It's a fabulous feeling when you wake up at 7am and get things done before you even have to head out the door to run errands. I have been waking up earlier ever since I moved to this new place, and I love it!

Turn off your electronics.

Turning off all of your devices at least 20 minutes before you go to bed will really help you relax. There are studies done on brain activity that prove lots of theories about sleep and technology. I struggle with this tip, too. So don't worry if you think you can't do it. We are in this together!!!

Give yourself a break.

Like I mentioned with the timer tip, having a time to switch something off or shut down is absolutely necessary for your sanity. You need to have a designated time to regroup and recuperate. I like to take at least an hour break for lunch which gives me plenty of time to eat and veg out for a little bit. This helps me relax at the half way point of the day and then get up and get right back to work.
